The Appia Antica or "Regina Viarum" is an ancient Roman road that connected Rome to Brindisi, built at the behest of Appius Claudius in 312 BC.
The beginning of the road starts from the curved side of the Circus Maximus (which by the way can also be visited for free), or Porta Capena of the ancient Servian Walls.
The first monument that can be admired is the famous Sepulcher of the Scipios. From here, along the Appia Antica with still original paving stones, a succession of ancient sites such as the Villa dei Quintili, the Valle della Caffarella, but above all the Basilica of San Sebastiano.
